Penn State Receives U.S. Army Contract Award
The U.S. Army Communication and Electronics Command of Fort Monmouth, N.J., awarded Penn State a five-year, $49.2 million contract to provide research and academic support services to the U.S. Army's Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center's Night Vision and Electronic Sensor Directorate located at Fort Belvoir, Va.
The major technical focus of the contract will provide electro-optics, night vision systems, sensor, laser technology and advanced materials development. This contract will provide the U.S. Army a mechanism to effectively access the full research and development capabilities of the University to meet the current and future requirements of the Army.

On March 31, 2005 Congressman John P Murtha and Chief of Naval Research Rear Admiral Jay M. Cohen were joined by representatives of Penn State University (PSU), the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, representatives of Senators Rick Santorum and Arlen Specter and local government officials to officially open the new home of the Electro-Optics Center in Freeport, Pennsylvania. The dignitaries spoke to the more than 150 guests with each speaker marveling at the EOC success story.

The EOC's Northpointe facility is located 25 miles north of Pittsburgh and features 15 technical laboratories providing over 15,000 square feel of research space dedicated to the departments and groups located in the facility. The building also features two conference rooms and a classroom with a total capacity of 150 people. Northpointe will serve as the home of the Center's administrative functions as well as research. |
